Frankston Pines 2 Oakleigh 2 Sat. 16/02/08

The season started last Saturday with a home game against Oakleigh Cannons
who finished fourth in last years VPL. Oakleigh started at a fast and
furious pace which I think suprised some of the newer Pines players and within
20 minutes had scored a good goal. Pines became more accustomed to the
pace but were soon two down due to a bit of bad luck at the back. Oakleigh
looked like they would run away with the game but just before half time a low
ball hit across the box found the foot of Cameron Jones, who made no mistake
and put the ball past the Oakleigh keeper. The whistle went and it was 1-2
to the away side. The second half was a diffrent matter Pines began strongly
and were rewarded after less than 10 minutes when Esala Masi crossed a ball to Nick
Waite, who easily beat the keeper to equalise. Pines turned up the heat after
drawing level and pressed for the winner but it never came. Oakleigh absorbed
the pressure well but never looked dangerous in the second half. It was a great
come back from 2 - 0 down but once we got level I think the feeling was we were
a little bit unlucky not to win. Still not a bad start to a long campaign.
The boys travel to Canberra this weekend to play the AIS.
